This is a big loop trip in Northern Vietnam but really diversified. You will have many different interesting activities and experiences during the trip. Those who love traveling off the beaten track and would like to enjoy the authentic cultures and admire amazing landscapes, this is the one that ofers you the insight.


The average speed of driving on the mountian roads is 35 km to 40km per hour. The distances between the destinations are viewed as follows:

Hanoi - 140km - Nam Dinh - 95km - Ninh Binh - 185km - Bac Binh - 250km - Bac Ha - 80km - Vinh Quang (HSP) - 30km - Thong Nguyen (HSP) - 180km - Yen Minh - 75km - Meo Vac - 165km - Ba Be Lake - 130km -  Cao Bang City - 85km - Ban Gioc Waterfall - 85km - Cao Bang City - 130km - Bac Son Valley - 200km - Halong Bay - 165km - Hanoi


Accommodation is expected to be basic but the top of the areas will be used for your best confort possible.

Food is very local, too. There is no western food to expect except bread, fried eggs for breakfast at some places. Meals are at local food stores but we always choose the most acceptable one.


You will be picked up from your hotel in Hanoi by the driver and tour guide and heading to the coastal area of Nam Dinh province. The drive takes about 3,5 hours to Giao Xuan commune of Xuan Thuy district. This area is famous for its good quality seafood and the big Mangrove on the Red River's alluvial ground which has been up at the River Mouth. Upon arrival, we have a short break and move on to a nearby jetty where we take a boat ride through a part of Xuan Thuy Mangrove National Park. The cruise in between the green mangrove takes us about 30 minutes before we are getting into a clam farming area. Stop by a clam stilt hut, climb up to the floor and enjoy our fresh seafood lunch. Rest and learn about the local clam farming during your lunch. In the afternoon, cruise back to the shore and drive along the cofferdam to visit the afternoon fish market (The market can be done in the next morning if you don't mind wake up early). The local fish market takes place just on the dam side. It is quite interesting to witness the fishermen moving different types of seafood in from their boats and trading with negotiations before being transferring to towns or far cities by motobikes. Continue on our visit with a home-made fish sauce family and learn the traditional fish sauce making technique. End our day with a gentle bicycling tour on the backroads through villages and farming land. This is also a best way to watch the locals' daily life. Dinner and overnight at the homestay.

Start the day with a short drive to visit the salt flats and learn how the farmer making salt. Salt-making is a traditional Vietnamese cottage industry that locals have practiced from time immemorial. After that, we will have a short stop to visit a net-fishing hut of a local man and try to pull the net and learn a typical way of making one's living in this coastal area. Followed by the drive back to the homestay for the breakfast. Around 9:00 AM, we bid farewell to the host family and make our way to Ninh Binh. On the way, we will have a short stop to visit an old Pagoda, called Co Le. The special thing of this pagoda is that it is the integration of Vietnamese traditional architectural elements with ones of European gothic architecture. This is a Buddhist pagoda but takes on a Catholic cathedral. Upon arrival in Tam Coc tourist attraction, we will have lunch at a restaurant, served with the local specialties. In the afternoon, we will embark on a sampan boat ride in Thung Nang where you will enjoy the amazing scenery of steep limestone mountains. The ride takes you through two tunnel-like caves before getting off for 45 minute hike to the mountains under dense vegetation. Get picked up after the hike and move on to your hotel for check in. Relax, dinner and overnight in Ninh Binh.

After the breakfast at the hotel, we will transfer to Hang Mua Mountain for another hike to the highest summit in this so-call "Inland Halong Bay" to admire the stunning landscape of the karst formations (The 500-step hike is optional). After Hang Mua summit, we will continue on hikking on the flat ground through a village and to rice fields, along the feet of the mountains. The second hike takes about 2 hours. This is also a great time to enjoy the peaceful atmostphere of a beautiful part of Trang An UNESCO's heritage. After lunch, we will drive toward Hanoi and then onward to another rural area in Vinh Phuc province. Arrive at Bac Binh Village, check in a local house for dinner and overnight.

This morning, we will take a walk to the neigborhood and visit a family where you can learn the sericulture (is the rearing of silkworms for the production of silk). After that, get back to the homestay for breakfast. We then take an easy bicycling tour to the fields and villages. This is another opportunity for you to learn more about the local agriculture in the region. You will see that there is big variety of cereals and vegetables are planted beside the wet rice. We may have a chance to visit a workshop that is run by a family who specializes in reeling cocoons and you can see how a silk yarn comes from. Around 10:00 AM, bid farewell to the host family and set out for our drive toward Lao Cai province. Lunch i on the way. Arrive in Bac Ha town, check in  the hotel and rest. Dinner and overnight in Bac Ha.

Today, you will spend most of the morning stroll around Bac Ha Market to hunt some good pictures. This is the biggest hill tribe market in the Northwest of Vietnam. Alive with the bright colours and extravagant costumes of the local people, specially the Flower H'mong. Together with other minorities, they come from different villages in the surroundings to buy and sell a wide variety of goods and livestock. It is more common to see buffalo, cows, goats, horses and other livestock being traded. After the market, we make our way to Xi Man town for lunch at a local food store. In the afternoon, continue on driving to Hoang Su Phi. Take about 1,5-hour hike to Ban Luoc, a Tay ethic village for a homestay night on a stilt house.

This morning, after the breakfast at the family. We trek the scenic dirt trail up and down the rice terraces in Ban Luoc area. This is one of the national rice terrace heritage cores in Hoang Su Phi. The beauty of the landscape is at its best at the yellow season (in the early half of October). Get picked up by our car and transfer to Vinh Quang town for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy the beautiful drive to Thong Nguyen commune for another homestay. Dinner and overnight at a local house.

We spend most of the day trekking Nam Khoa commue on small trails up and down the mountains, enjoy the scenic landscape of rice terraced fields and peaceful villages. The rice terraces in this area are not less impressive than the ones of the previous day. Lunch is taken care of by our local way leader and dinner at an other local house of the Red Yao people in the region.

You may be woken up early by the domestic animals again. Inhale the fresh air from the mountains and sip a cup of hot tea or coffee. After the breakfast, trek over an hour downhill to the paved road where we say good-bye to our local men and move on to our next destination by car. Lunch is at a restaurant in Ha Giang city. The afternoon drive takes you higher to the Northernmost region of the country. Some of the interesting stops for taking photographs includes Quan Ba Pass, Quan Ba's twin mountains. Arrive at Yen Minh town, check in and overnight in Yen Minh.

The drive today is amazing, the driver will do his best for you to stop as often as possible so that you are able to admire the limestone mountain scenery and taking photographs on the way as you are traveling thru' the Karst Geo-park. Dong Van Karst Plateau is unique combination between Geoheritages and cutural heritages. Up to 80% of the karst formations of Dong Van Plateau are limestone formed by environment conditions and different development stages of nature. The scenery is amazing and the local life and the culture of the hill tribes such as the H'mong is something that will be very memorable for your trip. Some of the typical stops are Pho Cao and Pho Bang ancient towns and the residence of the Vuong family, still called “Palace of Hmong King”. Lunch is served somewhere on the way.  In the afternoon, we will make our way to Meo Vac via the famous Ma Pi Leng Pass. This pass is King Pass in Vietnam for its height and incredible scenery can be viewed from the car windows. We also have a photo opportunity on the pass to view Nho Que River which is at the bottom of the vast abyss. check in your hotel and relax for the remainder of the day. Dinner and overnight at Meo Vac.

Today we will spend the whole day driving downhill to Ba Be National Park. The topography is changing from the rocky plataeu to soil mountain with green vegetation and forests. Lunch one the way at a local food store. Arrive at Ba Be national park, check in your accommodation either at a homestay near the lake or at a guesthouse of the park's center. Dinner and overnihgt at Ba be.

After breakfast, take a short walk to the boat dock and take the motor-boat ride through Ba Be Lake, which is considered as the biggest natural fresh water lake in Vietnam. The cruise is beautiful with scenery of steep limestone mountains covered by dense rainforest. Onward to Nang River and downstream to visit Dau Dang Waterfall. After viewing the waterfall, we will get back to the boat and move on upstream for Puong Limestone Cave. The Nang River runs through a limestone mountain in this national park and created a big cave which is decorated with many beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. The cave is also the shelter of thousand bats. About 15 minutes after the cave, you will land at a little dock where your private vehicle awaiting, get back on and drive to Cho Ra Town for your lunch at a local restaurant. The afternoon drive will takes you to Cao Bang province. On arrival in the city, check in a centrally located hotel for the night.

Start the day with 3-hour drive to the remote Trung Khanh District which shares the border with China. There are stops on the way to take photographs and witness the ethnic Nung people making basic blacksmiths with their farming tools in Phuc Sen village. Upon arrival at the waterfal, we take a walk across paddy fields to reach the base of the falls. If the water is not so violent, we will take a raft to get closer to the falls and enjoy the cool temperature, due to the water mist in the air. The fall is located right on the border between China and Vietnam.
Enjoy your Vietnamese lunch at a local restaurant nearby. Continue on visiting Nguom Ngao limestone Cave, which is about 2 km from Ban Gioc Fall. Thousands of colorful stalactites and stalagmites will amaze you. Back to the car for returning to Cao Bang town. Dinner and spend the second night in Cao Bang.

Check out of the hotel after your breakfast and get ready for the morning drive to Bac Son Valley in Lang Son province. The drive includes some stops on the way for you to take photographs whenever you want. Arrive at Quynh Son village of the ethnic Tay people and have lunch on a stilt house. This afternoon you will walk to visit the village and hike up to the top of the telephone-station mountain for a stunning scenery over the valley. This is a great point for those who love photographing. Dinner and chat chit with the host of our homestay tonight.

However, you can choose to stay at a basic mini hotel or at a homestay of the Tay people (If you stay overnight at the homestay, you will be separated to different beds (for couple) as it is the culture of the local people for guests – men and women sleep separately)

As the drive this morning is quite long to the bay, we will have the breakfast a bit early before bidding farewell to the host family for 5-hour drive to Halong City. Arrive in Halong Bay's pier around noon, get aboard for lunch and easy on the boat to enjoy the stunning scenery of the UNESCO's heritage while it is winding in between the limestone islands. Swimming and kayaking in the late afternoon if the weather permits. Dinner and overnight on boat in Halong Bay.

Get up early for the fresh air on the top deck with a cup of warm coffee/tea if you wish or you can stay longer in your cabin until breakfast time. After the breakfast, you will have further cruise to other parts of Halong Bay. Enjoy a wholesome brunch before getting back to harbor at noon. Thence, get back on to your private vehicle for the afternoon drive back to Hanoi. Finish your adventure at the door of your hotel in Hanoi.
